Telecom 

  • India is currently the 2nd largest telecommunication market and has the third-highest internet users in the world.
  • India'sIndia's telephone subscriber base expanded at a CAGR of 19.96%, reaching 1058.86 million during FY07–16.
  • In March 2016, total telephone subscriptions stood at 1,058.86 million, while teledensity was 83.36%.
  • The global telecom market grew from $1902 billion in 2012 to $2033 billion in 2016 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 1.7%. It is expected to grow from $2033 billion in 2016 to $2240 billion in 2020.
  • India is expected to have over 180 million smartphones by 2019, contributing around 13.5 per cent to the global Smartphone market, based on rising affordability and better availability of data services, among other factors.
  • The total mobile services market revenue in India is expected to touch US$ 37 billion in 2017, registering a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.2 per cent between 2014 and 2017.

Healthcare

IT and ITeS

Infrastructure

Power

  • The 12th Five Year Plan projects that, by 2016–17, total domestic energy production will reach 669.6 million tons of oil equivalent (MTOE) and further increase to 844 MTOE by 2021–22.

Retail

Pharmaceutical 

  • The Indian pharmaceuticals market increased at a CAGR of 17.46% during 2005-16, with the market increasing from US$ 6 billion in 2005 to US$ 36.7 billion in 2016 and is expected to expand at a CAGR of 15.92% to US$ 55 billion by 2020.
  • By 2020, India will likely be among the top three pharmaceutical markets by incremental growth and the sixth largest market globally in absolute size.
  • India'sIndia's cost of production is significantly lower than that of the US and almost half of that of Europe. It gives a competitive edge to India over others.
